Birmingham's European Vocational College is a major new initiative in the West Midlands. It is a new college based at Matthew Boulton College, supported by Birmingham City Council, Aston University, Advantage West Midlands, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham and Solihull TEC and the French and German Embassies. The college will become the second European Vocational College in the country, and is working closely with its counterpart - the London European Vocational College, which has been successfully operating for 10 years.

European Vocational College's aim is to provide employers with a unique opportunity to develop their employees' European awareness in line with company needs whilst providing staff with business, finance and foreign language training.

The training programme combines the best of British and European practice enabling successful employees to obtain both British and European qualifications in the two year study programme. Theory and practice are interrelated to constitute a model that has been successfully incorporated into the training schemes of companies such as Volkswagen, British Airways, Siemens and Mars Confectionery.

The European Vocational College at Matthew Boulton College will be formally opened by Albert Bore, Leader of Birmingham City Council and Dr Hans-Friedrich von Ploetz, the German Ambassador at the Council House in September 2000.
